Grangali (ISO 639-3 [nli]), also known as Gelangali or Jumiaki, is spoken in the provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar in northeast Afghanistan. Grangali speakers are ethnically related to other Nuristani groups but linguistically, the Grangali language is unrelated to
other Nuristani languages. It is part of the Dardic language family. Language use seems to be declining with few parents passing on Grangali to their children, preferring to use one of the surrounding languages of the area.
There are around 5,000 Grangali speakers in
Afghanistan. There are 2 dialects of Grangali. The Grangali dialect is spoken in Kandai, Kunar province, and the Nangalami dialect is spoken in the Dara-i Nur district of Nangarhar province. It is thought that the Nangalami dialect may be extinct.
